(Working) Title: Wind Rating: PG-13ish for now Word count: About 2300 for this chapter Spoilers: For everything; is post-one-shot. Summary: The title still wears Near instead of the other way around, but a new case forces him to re-examine what it means to be L.

I'm officially not fat anymore. My BMI has entered "normal" range. Yays!
I made crêpes with Gruyère yesterday and they were scrummy. I'm going to make some with Nutella today. I miss Ti Couz in San Francisco so hard.
Chapter 3 of what's still provisionally called Wind looks done-ish. Not exactly action-packed, meh. I need a silly WIP again. The thing that started as an attempt at threesome!fic is trying to develop a plot. The plot is: Matt saves the world. A lot. :-D I might try that one. Or--gasp!--the not-fanfic crazy time-travel story.
Mel FAILS at drinking. And she fails more at flirting. It gives me a much of joy ("a much of joy" ™ my mom). Poor girl. If she were a little less high-strung, she would've just jumped someone's bones by now.

1:09 pm - Little Man pics!
|
Yesterday the book from hell, with the index from the ninth circle of hell, finally shipped, late but acceptably so. (This book was cursed - the ftp site went down yesterday morning, preventing the freelancer from uploading the final files. GAH.) I went to my parents' house for dinner, and Little Sis took my nephew outside to blow bubbles.
( pics behind cut )
I didn't get any pics of Tiny Niece, because she was cranky and my camera-phobic mom was holding her most of the time. I love these kids, but man, if I had to live in the same house with them, I'd be like "OK, I'm gonna go outside for a smoke. For the next ten years."
One more book to send to the printer this week, and then I can relax again.
Did get a little writing done yesterday, but am still having plot woez.

How to Shoot Somebody Who Outdrew You The DVD commentary! With "unrated" deleted scenes
This story took for. ev. errrr. I started it about 5 months before I finally posted it. I didn't work on it that whole time, but it was still a really slow one. Writing about the process was interesting for me, and showed me that I've changed a lot as a writer just in the last few months. I hope it's at least mildly interesting to other people.
"Theatrical release" here

I was half-thinking of going to my college reunion half-because I bet I could get laid there and GOD knows it ain't happening in TN, but it's a bit late for planning the trip now.
I realized that the only verse of the alma mater I know anymore is the gag one, which goes thusly:
And when we are dead and are slowly decaying And brows once so furrowed are rotting away When worms in our bodily innards are playing We won't care 'cause we'll be deceased anyway We can't think of Brown when we're feed for the fodder They can't ask for money when we're six feet down We'll get our last vengeance on our alma mater By changing our wills just to screw dear old Brown
:D
My main WIP needs plotting liek woah, but my feeble brain isn't up to it lately. (Two books shipping this week at work, and still sleep-deprived.) But I looked at a shorter, naughtier WIP that wasn't working and switched the POV, and it suddenly started working. Yays.

Gah, sleep schedule all fucked to shit lately. (Why, yes, I have been rping someone who swears even more than I do. *g*) I tossed and turned until about 3 after getting in bed, and slept almost 'til 1 today.
Mello's dub voice seemed marginally less annoying in this week's episode. And Gevanni's, thank goodness, was fine upon closer acquaintance. I still pretty much have to watch every episode twice, because the first time through, I'm too busy going "OMG NEAR I LOVE YOU AS MUCH AS I LOVE COFFEE" to properly hear any of the dialogue.
I need to write some pr0nz. All the WIPs I've been working on lately are depressingly non-steamy.
I went shopping with Little Sis yesterday because Bro-in-Law was sick and she needs another adult to kidlet-wrangle now. My nephew is so funny. He knows people clap and laugh when he sings the ABCs (he still doesn't quite get all the letters right, but hey, he's not even 2), so he sings them a lot. And he sings them faster and gets more excited each time, until he's doing this, like, punk-rock version, and wiggling like crazy in his carseat.

My size 8 jeans fit again! :D I wouldn't quite wear them out in the public, as they're still a little snug, but they go on and zip just fine. Yays!
Poor Lewis-Bird (who is a cat) has an ear infection. The vet put this weird new stuff in his ear. It's medicated goop, bascially, that hardens and then comes out with all the wax and junk. Ick, but kinda cool. I almost wish they made it for people ears.
I am fighting a crossover plot bunny involving Thursday Next trying to recruit L to work at Jurisfiction. Yeah, I need 18 WIPs. :-p ("18" is my standard shorthand for "an unspecified amount of a lot," but in this case, I think it's the actual number, gah.)

OK, dndressingroom rocks. :D Everyone was so nice to my confused little Mel, even if running into a Light did sort of weird her out. She didn't know Light = Kira 'til now. She tried to play nice and not form snap judgments. She lives at chilichoc. Feel free to say hi if you're so inclined.
And I got some writing done before planting myself in front of the computer, so I feel extra-good about everything.
Watched the new episode on [as] and was like OMG NEEEAAAARRRRR all over again. And also MELLO WTF? and GEVANNI WTF EVAN MOAR?? But I'm still happy overall.
The damn birds outside my bedroom have been chirp chirp chirping starting at 1 AM lately. WHUT. But I must attempt to sleep nao.

3:31 pm - Meme! A naughty one, yay.
|
Swiped from my writing role model, musesfool: Memage Rules: Post the hottest sex scene you've ever written. Yes! It's that easy! Flood the flist with porn! Yay porn!
I pondered this for a bit. The naughty part of Lullaby is more sweet than hot, as happens with Matt/Near. How to Shoot is dirty pretty much all the way through (as happens with Mello/Near), but I can't decide which part of it is the hottest.
I do like "Secret." Short, dirty, to the point, and hot even though half the pairing isn't even there. I'll entertain dissenting opinions, though. :-) (And everyone should do this meme, so I have something to read while waiting for someone slow to tell me what I need to know to get this project out the door!)
( One from the vaults, NC-17 of course, MN OF COURSE )

5:39 pm - [Fic post] one hasn't a why or because or although
|
Title: one hasn't a why or because or although Pairing: Matt/Near Rating: PG-13 for swearing and tame yaoi Word count: 5000 Spoilers: Not really. Matt's real last name. Summary: Caring about anything had never come easily to Matt, and he could unlearn it, right?
Notes: The title and cut text are from e.e. cummings's poem "if everything happens that can't be done" (so are lowercase on purpose *g*). Many thanks to my beta, the wonderful angryhamster. There are more notes (this is what I get for using a foreign language), and they're under the cut.

Oh, great day yesterday. I made utterly yummy black bean + tomatillo sauce + queso fresco tacos for dinner. I ♥ Vegetarian Times.
AND REMIX WENT LIVE. My remixer rocked my world completely. I can't even say how awesome she (I assume she) is, kids. She took a little nothing of a character sketch and made this amazing actual story out of it.
My original: Five Ways Mello Found Secret Passageways at Wammy's House The remix: Crossroads (The "All Paths Lead to the Same Destination" Remix)
Matt/Near story now called "one hasn't a why or because or although" (e.e. cummings, yay) and just about done. I'm writing almost quickly, lately. Expect the temperature in Hell to begin dropping any second now. Still retains vestiges of its fluffy origins, but I can live with that. Am in still in remix mode: there is one little line in it referring to a conversation, and I am tempted to write a whole other story about that. 'cause Near doing what amounts to consulting L for romantic advice? How freakin' cute would that be?
Must drag self away from internets and do housework. :p

I had a fun time talking to Novelist Guy this morning. He's trying to write a query letter, and I'm trying to help. We made fun of the crappy artwork in a newspaper story about some sort of festival. We decided the art show needed a three-drink minimum. :D He's always bugging me to finish the post-apocalyptic faiytale (which is good; it keeps it at the front of my mind), but he said he was glad I wrote fanfic, because it keeps the writing muscles in shape. The urge to write fic is kind of an odd one, really, but seems to be native to me. I've been doing it forever, so I started having some thinkings about it.
( Useful things fanfiction has taught me )
In other news, Remix goes live OMGSOSOON. Cannot wait to see which story my remixer picked, and what the person I had thinks of what I wrote. *bites nails* Still pondering running a DN-only remix someday.

I threw my cell phone and broke it. I wasn't even that mad. I dunno why, but I find this hysterically funny.
Anyway, have a meme. It's that icon meme, or a variant thereof.
Pick an icon (or icons) of mine, and I'll tell you about it/them.
Here the deal with my default: I made it myself and love it passionately. It's the only one I feel possessive about. It's because I love Near, of course, especially his little smile. Here is the big version of the art. I used to see the text around on JournalFen; I believe it's from an online comic. It was too perfect not to use for my favorite morsel of snarky genius. :D

Matt/Near fluff getting longer and less fluffy by the minute. Enough so that if I ever manage to pull together all the threads it's sprouting, I'll probably need a very loving, picky beta. I kind of have to decide how difficult I want to make things for Matt. This is always a problem for me. I hate to be mean to characters, even if things are going to work out OK in the end. (Or as OK as they ever get in this fandom. *sigh*)
I have a lot of work. Six projects at the moment, and they've all started moving. Often, one book will be idle and a couple will be busy, but right now, they're all busy.
People might not know, so what I do is this: I'm a production editor, and I work on computer books. I'm in charge of making sure chapters get to everyone who needs them, from the indexer to the proofreader to the author. I also make sure all the art gets done, and I review each chapter for house style and stuff. I'm the one who decides when they're content-final, and the one who kicks everybody else so we make the print date. :-) I love my job. It lets me be as anal retentive as I like.

4:55 pm - Random thoughts while much-needed coffee brews

This morning I weighed the same as when I graduated from college. :D
( Appalling honesty in the form of weight stats )
I have several virtues, but patience is not among them; I am already chewing my nails waiting for remixredux08 to go live, and the deadline was only yesterday. WANT MY REMIXED STORY WANT WANT WANT.
I went to isrephael's wine 'n' cheese party last night. Good, good times, worth the sleep deprivation. :-) I get embarrassingly sappy and affectionate, and babble waaayyy too much about my fixations, when I'm drunk. People noticed I've lost weight. Yay for ego boosts.
Finally got How to Shoot done and posted! I was extra-nervous about this one. I think it's because it took for-freakin'-ever to write, and became this big deal in my head. I ♥ everyone for commenting and easing my writerly neuroses.
Now I'm working on Matt/Near fluff as a sort of fictional palate cleanser. And I think I found a way to convincingly get around that annoying "we only talked to L once" thing for "Wind." I swear, all my Near headcanon is ending up in this one[1]. :-)
1. And there's a lot of it. The Wales thing[2], stuff about his early life, the kinetic-thinker thing (as in: he actually needs something to do with his hands to order his thoughts most effectively), him being hyper-aware of everything around him (which kind of connects to the toys - they give him a focus). The "secretly a hot tamale" thing. Heh.
2. The whole reason I decided Near had to be Welsh is just a cross-fandom inside joke of mine. It's because Bran Davies, from The Grey King (IMHO the best book in the Dark is Rising series), is awesome and has white hair and is Welsh.

8:56 pm - How to Shoot Somebody Who Outdrew You
|
Title: How To Shoot Somebody Who Outdrew You Rating: NC-17 Characters: Mello/Near Word count: 4200 Spoilers: Through Chapter 77. ObDisclaimer: Not mine! She says, as they both breathe a sigh of relief.
Summary: Near was almost enough of a bastard to be interesting, Mello thought sometimes, but quickly banished that idea, making a mental note to possibly burn it out of his brain if he could find the offending synapses.
Notes: It's naughty, but there's more to it than just naughtiness. (People seemed to disagree with my calling it semi-PWP. *g*) The title is, of course, from Jeff Buckley's version of "Hallelujah." Feedback is always cherished and adored. Thanks and worship to my lovely beta, norrell.

I was tagged by rinnakins!
Once you have been tagged, you have to write a blog with 10 random things, facts, goals, or habits about yourself. At the end, choose 10 people to be tagged. Don't forget to leave them a comment (you're it!) to read your blog for instructions. You can't tag a person who has tagged you.
